Prince Fielder tries to bellyflop to third base

The Tigers rallied for two runs in the top of the 6th inning of ALCS Game 6 at Fenway Park, but the Red Sox managed to limit the damage thanks to an odd double play.

With runners on first and third and no outs, Jhonny Peralta grounded to Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia tagged Victor Martinez as he ran from first toward second, then fired to catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to try to keep Prince Fielder from scoring from third base. Then this happened:

It... well, it wasn't graceful. Fielder bellyflopped back toward the bag when he was nowhere near the bag. He looked like a nose tackle trying to make a tackle but getting juked by a running back, only the running back here is Red Sox infielder Xander Bogaerts, who wasn't trying to score a touchdown so much as avoid the hard-charging 275-pound man.

Take a look at the belly-flog from another angle:

That's a 4-2 double play, if you're keeping track. Not something you see in the scorebook every day.

This has not been a good postseason for the Tigers' first baseman. Fielder entered the game with a .243 batting average with only one extra-base hit this October.
