Redskins' Brandon Meriweather suspended two games

The NFL finally had enough of Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather's reckless play.

The league announced Monday afternoon it has suspended Meriweather for two games for repeat violations of the NFL's rules prohibiting hits to the head and neck area of defenseless players.

COACH: Hits aren't intentional

Those hits came roughly a month after another illegal hit led to a $42,000 fine - at least Meriweather's fifth since 2010.

Merton Hanks, the NFL's vice president of football operations, imposed the suspension, which covers Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos and a Nov. 3 game against the San Diego Chargers.

Meriweather has the right to appeal. If he does not or loses the appeal, he'd be forbidden from participating in football activities with the team until he's reinstated on Nov. 4.
