They saved the best for last.

Tessanne Chin blew the competition away on The Voice on Monday night with a stunning performance of Bridge Over Troubled Water.

The 28-year-old Jamaican powerhouse showed why she's considered the frontrunner to win season five of the hit NBC show after singing the classic ballad amid mysterious personal circumstances.

She was seen getting upset during rehearsals.

But it wasn't fully explained what was going on with Tessanne - who will face competition from teenager Jacquie Lee after she also delivered an excellent performance.

It came as the remaining five artists sang to fight it out for the three remaining spots on the show.

'This is it!' said host Carson Daly at the top of the live one-hour episode.

'Five incredibly talented artists are performing. It's a crucial night.'

The remaining five contestants - Will Champlin, Tessanne Chin, James Wolpert, Jacquie Lee and Cole Vosbury - hope to progress to the next round if they get enough viewer votes.

Two will be eliminated on Tuesday and there are no chances left to instantly save any of them.

But they will all be crossing their fingers after Tessanne's show-closing effort.

She was seen with the other Team Adam members at his house having breakfast.

'Good eggs, Adam,' she said as she tucked in.

'I can't cook anything else,' he confessed.

'You are just a charismatic human being with so much love in your heart,' Adam told her.

'I am so ready to put my all into this and treat this song as if it was the last song because I want it to be that meaningful,' she said.

Adam chose the Simon & Garfunkel song for her - saying it was the 'ultimate platform' for her.

She burst into tears as she rehearsed, and Adam seemed close to crying, too.

'Need a hug?' he asked her before embracing her.

'Emotions are definitely running high,' she said. 'I think I have the inspiration. I can see the finish line. I have to deliver it.'

She unplugged her in-ear monitor as she started to sing the classic ballad as she showed a total command of her pitch-perfect voice.

Performing in a sea of blue mist, she wore a black dress and brought he house down as she hit the long note at the end of the track.

Adam Levine got to his feet to applaud her as she finished.

He was lost for words as the audience kept cheering.

'I don't even know what to say. That's crazy what just happened. The things that they edited out of the package obviously that were upsetting you are very intense and very serious and we all respect that, but I know what you're going through,' Adam said.

'Not only knowing the context of what's going on in your life as a friend but also the sheer talent is just... I've never been speechless on the show before.

'I think that that's probably the most flawless and graceful performance I've ever heard on this show.'

Blake Shelton agreed.

'It's hard as an opposing team member to argue with anything that Adam just said. It was beautiful. I'm such a big fan of yours. I'm happy for you,' the country star said.

Her sister Tami Chynn and her mother were in the audience watching.

Tessanne told Entertainment Weekly before the show aired that she got some news that helped her relate to the song more.

'It's not really my story to tell, but the long and short of it is, right before rehearsals, I found out some really sad news, and the song just had a lot of connection to do with that particular situation,' she said.

'It kind of floored me a little bit, but for me, it just helped me to see the song in a completely different way than what I was singing it for in the beginning,' she added.

Cee Lo Green earlier pretended to be on phone as he was introduced - while Blake rocked a bushy ZZ Top-style black beard - presumably in support of his remaining team member, Cole.

The show kicked off with the five semi-finalists singing Best Day of My Life by American Authors.

Cole appeared to be having some mic problems, making his voice fuzzy, before the singers mingled with the audience, dishing out high fives.

Then Team Adam's geeky indie rocker James Wolpert, who was saved by viewers on Twitter last week, was the first to sing.

'It felt like I knew I was going to die,' he admitted after he got sick and still had to go on stage the previous week.

'I was completely blown away by your performance,' teammate Tessanne told him.

'I feel so fortified you're still here,' said Adam.

He sang With Or Without You by U2, which Adam said was one of his favourite songs.

'I just want to see him really let go,' he added. 'It's time for James to bring it in a way he's never brought it before.'

Wearing his trademark suit jacket and tie, the 22-year-old Pennsylvania native sang against a moody black and white backdrop that later featured a splash of colors as he reached a crescendo.

'I don't even care about the competition at this point,' said Adam. 'I just know how incredible that performance was.

'People are going to win and lose, whatever. James, that was even beyond what I thought you could do. I am so proud.'

Christina Aguilera said it was a 'good job' - and pointed out that she'd suggested the song for a coach performance earlier in the series.

Blake Shelton added: 'You needed a moment like that. Heck, man, you might have dug yourself out of a hole.'

Nerdy Will Champlin - whose dad performed with group Chicago - was given the song Carry On by Fun by Adam as he praised the dynamics of the track.

'You're a walking instrument,' Tessanne told him at the breakfast meet-up at Adam's house.

'You have to fully commit,' Adam told him.

'This song symbolizes my journey in life,' said Will as he told how he wanted to take care of his wife Roseanne and their infant daughter Harper.

'If he can kind of let go and release control he can win this thing,' said Adam.

The 30-year-old from Los Angeles opened his performance sitting on a bar stool in a dapper suit as she showcased his vocal range.

He then appeared in front of a city vista with musicians playing behind the 'skyscrapers'.

His dad Bill Champlin and wife cheered raucously for him at the end - but baby Harper was fast asleep for her father's big moment.

'I don't think I've ever seen this happen before. Look at that smile! I know that if Will is smiling he knows he did well because he's so hard on himself,' said Adam. 'I'm gushing.'

Cee Lo added: 'It is really cool to see you feeling all swaggy up there.'

Blake said: 'We enjoyed that because we could tell that you were, for once.'

It was the last chance for Team Christina as her one remaining artist in the contest, Jacquie Lee, got ready to perform.

Christina told her: 'I want you to be that voice that just allows everyone to escape for a second.'

She added: 'This week I gave my little angel Jacquie the song Angel [by] Sarah McLachlan.

'It embodies everything emotionally and vocally that she's going through. This is a moment for her to be inspirational.'

'The stakes are a lot higher now,' said the pretty 16-year-old from New Jersey.

She was then seen trying to get a note right in the studio as they recorded a version of the song for iTunes as she got tips from industry vet Christina.

She looked angelic in a white dress as she showed off her impressive, rousing voice on the inspirational track before she was joined onstage by a backing choir carrying candles.

It was the most visually striking performance of the night with the audience making heart shapes with their hands. Christina gave her a standing ovation as her family watched on.

'Wow,' she said. 'You did things I didn't even know you were going to do tonight.

'You blew me away!'

'It's such a special song,' Christina added, saying it was her best effort yet. 'You really showed a lot of dynamic. You straight up won tonight, in my heart. Can we press replay?'

'That was amazing,' said Cee Lo. 'That was probably the most perfect... It was wonderful.'

The judge - who has no contestants left - said she gave him something to cheer about.

Blake Shelton took Cole Vosbury to a barber - where CeeLo was waiting for him in a chair.

'Howdy partner,' he said.

'I brought Cole in here to make sure he's looking good,' said Blake, who said he also wanted Cole to know Cee Lo was still supporting him.

'You seem to keep getting better and better,' said Cee Lo, who tipped him to win.

He got his beard combed before he began to rehearse Garth Brooks' Shameless.

Blake picked it to showcase the different styles Cole sings in.

'I've always been really connected to these lyrics,' said 22-year-old Cole, whose love of singing he ascribes to grandmother, Nita Lynn, who was once on the bill with Elvis Presley.

'Go rock star with it!' Blake advised him.

'It's go big or go home,' Cole agreed.

Throaty-voiced Cole sat behind the piano as he opened his performance.

And then he got up and walked down a set of stairs as he interacted with the audience and belted out the bluesy-country hit in a maroon suit.

'New suit, new beard?' asked Carson Daly. 'Looking good.'

'Incredible job, dude,' said Blake, who poached him earlier in the competition.

'I think you just now figured out who you are and what you want to do. Now let's go ahead and win this thing.'

'It's like this is YOUR hit record,' said Cee Lo.

Last season's winner Danielle Bradbery was also in the audience.

She is set to perform on Tuesday night.

And stars of NBC'S new a cappella singing show The Sing Off, including Nick Lachey and Jewel, also appeared in the broadcast.

Nick did an impression of Blake Shelton - before Carson Daly did his own impersonation, mimicking Blake downing a drink.

'That's all he does,' said Carson in a running gag on the show.
