Apple's '12 Days of Gifts' Kicks Off Dec. 26
Apple today released a new app that will serve up 12 days of free gifts, beginning Dec. 26.
The 12 Days of Gifts app - available for iOS devices running iOS 7 and above - will allow users to download one free gift per day from Dec. 26 to Jan. 6. 'Each day's gift will only be available for 24 hours, so download the free app to make sure you don't miss out,' Apple said in the app description.
The app is available for download now; it will show a countdown ('16 Days until your first gift arrives') until the promotion begins. Gifts are based on the time zone associated with your device, so new gifts will be posted at midnight local time each day.
Apple did not specify what gifts it will offer, though a FAQ within the app mentioned e-book downloads, as well as music, TV, and movie content, so Cupertino will likely be offering free apps or coupons for free downloads in its store.
Apple has provided freebies in the past, but usually restricted them to international markets. The 2012 app, for example, was available in Europe and Canada, MacRumors reported last year.
Apple is not the only company running holiday deals. Microsoft on Monday kicked off its own 12 days of deals, starting with a steep discount on the Dell Venue 8 Pro, which sold out in minutes. Today's deal begins at 10 a.m. ET., so check back then.
