Artist paints Sistine Chapel ceiling inside a Fiat
The Sistine Chapel ceiling now gracing the top of a Fiat 500L / Fiat 
As auto-show gimmicks go, you have to appreciate this one just for sheer creativity: the artist who was commissioned to paint a replica of the Sistine Chapel ceiling on the the headliner of a Fiat 500L.
By hiring Italian artist Nicola Verlato for his fancy paint job, which wasn't completed until last week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Fiat underscores that it is indeed Italian and that the 500L is roomy, or at least roomy enough to accommodate a large-scale painting.
The 500L is the larger, squared-off version of the little 500.
So now that the gimmick has ended, we wonder why Fiat and other automakers haven't tried to so something more art-inspired on their own cars' headliners. They're boring, we suspect, by design so they don't overshadow the rest of the interior. But as Verlato shows, maybe there is some potential for the part of your car that your head rubs against.
Now, if Fiat will only create a 'Sistine Chapel' option for the 500L and install the print of Verlato's latest masterpiece. That's an option we'd take and that the Vatican would appreciate.
