Blatche insists he won't fall in love with threes
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Andray Blatche had the touch going in Saturday night's win, canning
But look deeper into the box score at the three-point column and those numbers look a little funny. That's because Blatche netted a career-high three triples, a case of him really stretching the defense and a Grizzlies' front line that was without Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
Blatche, who's shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc after going 3-for-3 versus Memphis, has been given the green light by Kidd to hoist away from the perimeter. and the 6-11 big man insists he's not going to abuse the privileges.
'The shot presented itself and I took it,' Blatche said. 'It's all about playing the game. Don't think. Just react.'
Ok, but how does he make sure he doesn't cross the line of turning into a mad bomber, falling head over heels with long distance shots? Blatche has let a three-pointer fly in four of the Nets' last five games.
'Take it when it presents itself,' Blatche said. 'I'm not going to be sitting behind the three and try to pull up for three, But if it's there, I'm going to take it.'
Blatche is a character, sometimes participating in three-point contests with Brook Lopez at the end of practices. He also isn't shy about showing off his ball-handling abilities, acting as if he's a point guard trapped in a big man's body.
Kidd, though, isn't about to reel him in, particularly when it comes to his three-point attempts.
'He's got to take the shot that presents itself and those were all in-rhythm shots that he took from behind the arc,' Kidd said. 'And you can totally see he was into the game and just not offensively, but defensively. He was talking out there. He's like KG -- a guy that guys can feed off and that's what he did.'
