Google Chromebook sales increase dampens Microsoft stronghold
Google's Chromebook devices have felt a surge in sales over the last year, denting Microsoft's position in the PC market.
The company now accounts for 21% of notebook sales in the US and makes up 10% of all computers and tablets.
The figures from the mark a change in fortune for Chrome OS powered devices, which made up only 0.2% of the market in 2012.

Web retailer Amazon has also revealed that Chromebooks made up two of the three best-selling notebooks over the Christmas period on its US website.
The Samsung Chromebook and the Acer Chromebook came in first and third respectively, while the ASUS Transformer Book running Windows 8 sits in between at second.
'Tepid Windows PC sales allowed brands with a focus on alternative form factors or operating systems, like Apple and Samsung, to capture significant share of a market traditionally dominated by Windows devices,' NPD analyst Stephen Baker said. 'OEMs can't sit back and depend on Wintel anymore.'
