You know a mother-daughter relationship has gone wildly off track somewhere somehow when the younger woman wants to take Mommie Dearest and 'kill her once, kill her good, kill her dead.' That's probably something no amount of family counseling can rectify.

In tonight's eighth episode of 'American Horror Story: Coven,' Cordelia moves forward with her kill plan via a ritual called 'The Sacred Taking' -- something used only in times of crisis that allows for the ascension of the next Supreme. All of the girls are in on it, except Queenie, who is off somewhere getting her voodoo on. Even Myrtle and Misty, the later of whom is now being viewed as the likely next Supreme because of her ultrarare resurgence powers.

Just for kicks, Madison drops in on Fiona's bedroom where the reigning cancer-ridden Supreme is feeling sickly and sorry for herself. Fiona, of course, is surprised to see that the witch she thought she killed is back to flaunt her youth in her face.

You get the feeling that Ryan Murphy loves writing scenes between Madison and Fiona because they're always crackling with wit and outrageous put-downs. In this case, Madison teases Fiona that she'll be burned at the stake and that it will essentially be treated as entertainment.

'I'm going to bring graham crackers and marshmallows to make 's'mores,' she chirps.

Then again, there's another way out, says Madison. Fiona can swallow a bunch of pills and leave this world quietly and with dignity.

Fiona doesn't like either choice. Instead, she starts packing her bags, intending to bolt New Orleans with Danny. And that's when Myrtle appears in her room to put the kibosh on that plan.

Fiona wonders how Myrtle is living and breathing again after being barbecued and Myrtle lies, telling her that Madison resurrected her. Apparently believing that Madison has super-duper powers and that there is no way out, Fiona relents. She gussies herself up a bit, prepares to take the pills and expire in her bed.

'Just don't let them store me in the basement with that disgraced Russian witch,' she begs.

Then she settles into bed, ready to shuffle off this mortal coil. But wait! She can't die! She's Jessica Lange -- the highly paid star of our show. And sure enough, Spalding -- with his newly reattached tongue -- shows up to give her a 'Rocky'-like pep talk. Stop trying to be a martyr, he says. Bounce out of bed and get back to being the strong, kick-ass head bitch witch you're meant to be. (You can practically imagine 'Eye of the Tiger' playing in the background).

Spalding goes on to tell Fiona that the other witches have pulled a fast one on her. Madison didn't resurrect Myrtle. The 'swamp witch' Misty did. Then he gives her an antidote to pull her out of her stupor.

And apparently saving Fiona is the right move (for now). That's because a witch-hunter sniper is lurking in the neighborhood. In fact, he has fired silver bullets into the neighbor's home, seriously injuring Luke (Nan is freaked) and killing his mother. That gives Fiona a chance to witness firsthand Misty's resurgence abilities as the Stevie Nicks wannabe brings Luke's mom back to life (Does anyone ever stay dead on this show?).

Clearly, the coven is under attack and it's time to put mother-daughter grievances aside. Stunningly, Fiona isn't mad at Cordelia for trying to orchestrate her death. In fact, she's even kind of proud. 'Delia and the girls showed a lot of 'grit' with the plan, which ultimately demonstrated that, 'You really are my daughter.'

Even more stunning, Cordelia is willing to let bygones be bygones. She's actually relieved that the death plan didn't work because, with war at hand, the coven will desperately need to rely on Fiona's knowledge and power.

And then, right in the middle of all this mother-daughter bonding, a package is delivered to the front porch -- a package containing the gruesome talking head of Delphine!
