Jordan Reed injury: Redskins TE out for the year, per report

A bad week for the Redskins keeps getting worse, with tight end Jordan Reed now reportedly out for the season.
Jordan Reed appears to be done for the season, according to Fox Sports. The Washington Redskins are reportedly shutting down the tight end to spare him from further injury risk. Reed has sat out for the Redskins since Week 11 due to a concussion.
The Redskins have yet to make an official announcement. Head coach Mike Shanahan may be more concerned with preparing to play the Atlanta Falcons and fending off critics of his decision to bench Robert Griffin III. Shanahan used similar logic when benching Griffin, saying he didn't want to put him at risk for more hits that could cause a setback. The difference between Griffin and Reed is that Griffin could play if needed. Reed was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday, putting his Week 15 status in doubt even if coaches wanted him to suit up.
Reed has been one of just a few bright spots for the Redskins this season. A fourth-round pick out of the Florida State during the 2013 NFL Draft, Reed quickly made a major impact. His 45 receptions for 499 yards lead all rookie tight ends, which is especially impressive considering he has missed most of four games.
With Reed out, the Redskins will continue to rely on Logan Paulsen -- 19 receptions, 207 yards, three touchdowns -- to handle passing targets at tight end.
