Mexico City arena evacuated before NBA tipoff

The Mexico City arena where the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves are playing an NBA game Wednesday night was evacuated 45 minutes before tipoff because of smoke inside the arena.

NBA spokeswoman Sharon Lima says the smoke was coming from a generator fire outside the arena. There was no word yet if the start of the game will be delayed.

While the teams were warming up for their regular-season matchup, lights went out in parts of the arena and smoke began pouring out of vents in the upper deck.

Players, still in their uniforms, boarded their team buses parked outside the arena. Fans and media were also ordered to evacuate.

MIAMI HEAT

The Pistons used their size to halt the Heat's win streak at 10. Miami's four-game road trip, which begins Thursday in Chicago, should also be a paint battle.

Pistons 107, Heat 97

LeBron James and Michael Beasley each scored 23 points, but the Heat couldn't overcome the absence of Dwyane Wade as the Pistons snapped Miami's 10-game winning streak Tuesday night.

LeBron James shot 61 percent, averaged 26.9 points, six rebounds, 5.9 assists and played roughly 21/2 minutes less a game than his career average in the month of November.
