Redskins deny report that Mike Shanahan wanted to quit after 2012
LANDOVER, Md. - Another day, another Washington Redskins fire.
The team strongly denied an ESPN.com report claiming head coach Mike Shanahan was prepared to quit and walk away from his job after last season because of frustration with the way owner Daniel Snyder openly catered to quarterback Robert Griffin III above and beyond other players.
'That story is ridiculous,' Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said. 'Coach is getting ready for the (Kansas City Chiefs) game. He will be available after the game today.'
Shanahan and Griffin led the Redskins to their first NFC East title in 13 years last season before losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs when Griffin shredded his anterior cruciate and lateral collateral cruciate ligaments.

The ESPN report went on to say that Shanahan, who is in the fourth season of a five-year, $35-million contract, changed his mind about leaving after RG3 was hurt because he didn't want his players or the public perceiving that the coach walked away because the franchise quarterback was hurt.
Shanahan's future is currently in question because the Redskins have lost four in a row and were eliminated from playoff contention with last week's 24-17 loss to the New York Giants.
Shanahan was asked about the status of his relationship with RG3 this week.
'I think it's always been good,' he said. 'I know some of the things I read, it's not always that good. ... But I've always felt it's good.'
A perception of mistrust with Shanahan's son, Kyle, the team's offensive coordinator, and RG3's camp was also a topic of conversation this week. Kyle Shanahan was asked Thursday if the quarterback had complete trust in him and his play calling amid questions that his strategy against the Seahawks might have contributed to the Griffin's controversial knee injury.

'Yeah, I would hope so,' Kyle Shanahan said of their trust level. 'I think we've done some pretty good things together.'
Kyle Shanahan went on to say: 'Robert is a franchise quarterback. He's a great quarterback, and he's going to have a hell of a career here. ... And I love coaching him.'
