Vikings corner ejected for shoving official after giving up amazing touchdown catch
In the midst of a record-breaking day, Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery made a breathtaking 46-yard touchdown catch over the head of Minnesota Vikings corner Chris Cook.
Whether frustrated by the fact that Jeffery had burned him yet again or because he disagreed with the touchdown signal, Cook got up and gave a small shove to the official who signaled touchdown.
Though it wasn't the most violent shove, Cook violated the cardinal rule of player conduct: He put his hands on an official. Is it weak? Yes, but there's no such thing as a weak shove on an official. It's like being a little pregnant. Just like in kindergarten, keep your hands to yourselves. Cook's touch earned an automatic flag and ejection and will likely lead to a substantial fine.
Maybe Cook was confused by the rules on official interaction after touchdowns. Earlier in the game, his teammate, wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, made contact with an official earlier in the game, but it was in the form of a celebratory low-five.
