Vonn's knee gives out in race as Olympics near
Lindsey Vonn suffers another big health setback after her surgically-repaired knee gives up on her less than two months before the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are set to begin.
Ski champ Lindsey Vonn's knee failed her Saturday morning at a downhill in France, casting a dark shadow over her prospects for February's Olympics.
Vonn pulled off course during a high-speed World Cup race at Val d'Isere, where her boyfriend, Tiger Woods, stood waiting near the finish line, wincing at the sight of her troubles.
Broadcast images of Vonn's run showed her coming to an abrupt stop after a turn that required tolerating high pressure on her right knee, which was surgically repaired in Feb. and reinjured in Nov.
The 29-year-old skiing ace got back on snow just seven months after that surgery because she wanted to be prepared for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, now less than two months away.
Vonn won the Olympic downhill four years ago at the Vancouver Games, and frequently dominated the sport in the years that followed. But last winter she struggled to find her winning edge and then blew her knee out in an ugly crash at the 2013 world championships in Austria.
Besides the Olympics, Vonn also has her eyes on the 2015 world championships near her hometown of Vail.

And on the World Cup tour she needs only four victories to break a three-decade record, Annemarie Moser-Proell's tally of 62 wins, the most in any female skier's career.
While the women's tour was in France, the men raced on the historic Saslong downhill course in Val Gardena, Italy, where 36-year-old Bode Miller finished fifth.
