Jeremy Hellickson out until at least mid

Jeremy Hellickson's 2014 season is already off to a bad start. (USATSI) MORE: FA tracker: position players | FA tracker: pitchersRays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson will likely be out until mid or late May after undergoing arthroscopic elbow surgery last week, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Topkin writes:
Hellickson, 26, had loose bodies removed from his elbow by Dr. Koco Eaton in what is considered a minor procedure, and is likely to miss the first 6-8 weeks of the season.
Last season, Hellickson disappointed, as he pitched to a 5.17 ERA (74 ERA+) and 1.35 WHIP in 174 innings of work. Across his first three seasons in the majors, however, Hellickson notched a 3.06 ERA (125 ERA+) in 70 games, 64 of which were starts. He won AL Rookie of the Year honors in 2011.
Hellickson's being sidelined means that Jake Odorizzi will likely open the season as the Rays' fifth starter. It also may make it even less likely that the Rays trade ace David Price this offseason.
