Mets sign Jose Valverde to minor
The veteran reliever - he saved 49 games and was an All-Star in 2011 - was released by the Tigers on August 7 of last season.
The Mets made a small move to add to their bullpen depth on Wednesday, signing veteran Jose Valverde to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league camp.
Valverde, 35, has served as closer for Houston, Arizona and Detroit. He has 286 career saves. Valverde appeared in 20 games for the Tigers last year, and was released on August 7.
He joins Kyle Farnsworth as veteran relievers looking to make the Mets out of spring training.
