Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin vows to have 'a better pulse' on his team ...
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin says he is going to be more vigilant about locker room conduct.
Six days after the Ted Wells report on the workplace concerns with the Miami Dolphins, head coach Joe Philbin said the language and behavior detailed in the report was 'inappropriate' and 'unacceptable.'
The independent investigation concluded with a report released last Friday which detailed a 'pattern of harassment' by offensive linemen Richie Incognito, Mike Pouncey and John Jerry toward Jonathan Martin and Player A -- who Andrew McDonald later identified as himself. The harassment included derogatory racial and homophobic language and inappropriate physical contact, the report said.

Philbin, speaking at the NFL's annual scouting combine in Indianapolis Thursday, said he took responsibility for the situation, though he noted that he was completely unaware of it at the time it was unfolding.
'I'm going to be more vigilant, I'm going to be more diligent, I'm going to be more visible and I'm going to have a better pulse,' Philbin said. 'I can tell you that I never turned my back -- if I heard this type of language or these types of acts being done I would have intervened immediately. There's a common decency that people need to have to one another. When that gets violated, that's an issue.'

Philbin has survived a scandal and a season that cost others their job. Following the Wells report, the team fired offensive line coach Jim Turner and head athletics trainer Kevin O'Neill. GM Jeff Ireland left the team earlier this offseason, and the future's of Incognito, Pouncey, and Jerry are very much up in the air.
Asked about those three players, Philbin said, 'We haven't made any decisions on anybody's future in terms of the 2014 Miami Dolphins.'

Philbin said Stephen Ross will meet with Martin in the 'near future' and that he wouldn't comment on Martin's future until after that meeting.
Though Philbin said he took responsibility for the team, he seemed to pass the buck when it came to why Incognito was on the leadership council despite allegedly harassing a woman on a golf course in May 2012.
'I didn't necessarily name him a leader,' Philbin said. 'There's a leadership council we have in place. The process is the players elect the players that they want on the leadership council. Out of respect of the process, that's how the votes came in.'
