SOCHI - Sweden's medal chances in Olympic hockey suffered a staggering blow Friday when Henrik Zetterberg was forced to leave the competition because of a herniated disk problem.
The Swedes are already playing without Henrik Sedin, who had to pull out just before the Olympics because of a rib injury, and Johan Franzen (concussion).
'I have not been able to move much, had a rough night,' Zetterberg told SportEspressen.se.
In the article, Zetterberg says surgery is a possibility.
'You cannot keep going like this,' he said. 'It's the same as in December.'
This is also difficult news for the Detroit Red Wings because they are in a scrap to hold the No. 8 playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The franchise has made the playoffs for 22 consecutive seasons.
'He won't be ready by the time we come out of the Olympics,' Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press.
