Johnny Football is at the top of this year's crop of elite quarterbacks, at least when it comes to his test-taking skills.
Texas A&M gunslinger Johnny Manziel reportedly scored a 32 on the famed Wonderlic test, besting the scores of fellow top NFL prospects Blake Bortles of Central Florida and Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater.
The NFL Network's Albert Breer offered up the scores in a series of tweets on Friday morning. Bortles reportedly scored a 28, while Bridgewater got 20. Cornell QB Jeff Mathews' score of 40 was highest among the quarterbacks tested.
The Wonderlic is the 12-minute, 50-question exam that NFL teams use to test a player's problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
While a good score can boost a player up draft boards around the league, it's no guarantee of future success.
Two of the highest reported scores have gone to a pair of underwhelming NFL signalcallers in Ryan Fitzpatrick (48 coming out of Harvard in 2005) and the now-retired Greg McElroy (43 coming out of Alabama in 2011).
Peyton Manning may have family bragging rights when it comes to just about every statistical category in the NFL, but it was Eli that delivered the better results on the Wonderlic. Eli scored a 39 coming out of Ole Miss in 2004, while Peyton managed only a 28. (Eli does own more Super Bowl rings, so maybe the Wonderlic does mean something?).
Hall of Famers Jim Kelly, Dan Marino and Terry Bradshaw (all with 15) had no problem overcoming the poor test results to deliver the goods on the field.
In Daily News NFL columnist Gary Myers' most-recent mock draft he had three quarterbacks going in the top ten in the May 8 draft. Myers has Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman, going No. 1 to the Texans, with Bortles going No. 5 to the Raiders and Bridgewater at No. 8 to the Vikings.
Still four weeks to Wonder how it will all shake out on draft day.
