Free agent forward Josh McRoberts has agreed to join the Miami Heat on a four-year, $23 million deal, a person with knowledge told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal can't be formalized until the free agency moratorium lifts on July 10.
McRoberts, a 6-10 power forward, averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 30.3 minutes per game for the Charlotte Bobcats last season, and he chose joining the Heat over the renamed Hornets. The Heat were expected to use their full midlevel exception on the 27-year-old.
His eventual addition will play a part in the Heat's ongoing attempts to convince free agent LeBron James to stay in Miami, as McRoberts is the first free agent addition that Heat president Pat Riley has been able to secure. As USA TODAY Sports first reported Sunday, James plans on meeting with Riley in person early this week to discuss his future.
ESPN first reported that McRoberts and the Heat had agreed to terms.
