Billy Crystal to present Robin Williams tribute at Emmys
One of Robin Williams' closest friends will honor him at this year's Emmys.
Billy Crystal will pay tribute to the late actor during the awards show, Emmy producer Don Mischer announced Wednesday during the red carpet rollout ceremony.
'We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable. Billy seemed like the perfect choice,' Mischer said.
Crystal will honor Williams during the telecast's 'In Memoriam' segment, which will feature a performance by Sara Bareilles.
Crystal and Williams' friendship dates back close to three decades. The two famously spearheaded the 'Comics Relief' specials, along with Whoopi Goldberg, to raise money for the homeless. They also starred together in the 1997 film 'Father's Day.'
Williams himself was part of the 2013 Emmy's 'In Memoriam' segment when he paid tribute to his mentor Jonathan Winters.
The 'When Harry Met Sally' actor has stayed quiet since Williams passed away last week, simply tweeting 'No words' upon hearing of his friend's death.
