James Cameron hates Twitter, but loves his high
James Cameron is known for pushing the boundaries of technology, but the filmmaker admitted that he has a distaste for Twitter and admits to being a 'high-tech Luddite.' Still, that doesn't stop him from using high-tech film tools and diving equipment.
Cameron sat down with USA Today ahead of the release of his new deep-sea diving documentary, Deepsea Challenge 3D and explained why he doesn't like smartphones.
'I was the first person I knew to have a cellphone in my car in 1983. At that point it was intriguing,' Cameron said. 'Now I just see it as a ball and chain. I don't want to be that available to the world. I don't want to share every single thing I do.' He complained that many people he sees at airports are completely oblivious and not living in the moment when they look down at their smartphones.
'I refuse to do it. So there you have it. I'm a Luddite. But I'm a high-tech Luddite,' he said.
Cameron also said that he has used Twitter, but didn't like it. He also doesn't have a Facebook page.
'I hate it. I hate everyone else's tweets, too. They're boring. What can you say in 140 characters? I can't even clear my throat in 140 characters,' the Avatar director said.
Speaking of Avatar, while we do have two years to go before Avatar 2, Cameron is back in cinemas this weekend with Deepsea Challenge 3D. The film documents his journey to the lowest points of the ocean, down 36,000 feet, using high-tech sea exploring equipment.
'I'm just a very curious person, I guess,' Cameron recently told Entertainment Weekly. 'It's what attracts me to science, to engineering. I like to build things and see if they work. I get as much of a charge out of building the machines as I do out of operating them.'
