Joe Kelly, Allen Craig found out about trade to Red Sox through media

(USATSI) More MLB: Power Rankings | Expert Picks | Latest news & notes | Fantasy newsBefore the trade deadline Thursday, the Cardinals swung a pretty significant deal with the Red Sox, sending Joe Kelly and Allen Craig to Boston for John Lackey. St. Louis needed some more reliability in the rotation and, as an added bonus, the deal opened a full-time lineup spot for top prospect Oscar Taveras.
Unfortunately, because we live in a world where information spreads instantly, the Cardinals were unable to tell Kelly and Craig about the trade before they learned about it from leaked reports. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has this nugget:
Craig, an All-Star just a year ago, was sitting in a room off the clubhouse with teammates when he heard about the trade on the television. Kelly read it first on Twitter. Other players heard about it first from the media or a website.
That's rough. In the past I would have crushed the team for not telling the players first, but stuff moves so fast these days that a leaked report can make it from the source to the player within a matter of seconds. The two teams might not have even dotted the i's or crossed the t's yet.
I can't imagine what it's like to get traded, especially from the team that originally drafted and developed you. Finding out about it from television or Twitter would make it even worse.
