LG to launch G Watch R at IFA

It was revealed earlier in the month that LG was planning to release a G Watch 2 wearable at the company?s IFA event in Berlin in September. I derided the possibility of a sequel to the original G Watch just 2 months after the original landed, and I stand by my derision. However, it seems that the G Watch 2 will not launch at all and instead LG is planning to roll out a brand new wearable, one that may bring a touch more showbiz to its smart watch line up.
The company has teased the new device and it is called the G Watch R, but aside from having the same name as the original wearable from LG it is totally different. The R stands for Round, which of course means that the new smart watch from LG will be circular, the shape most consumers want.
The device has apparently been in development since the same time as the original G Watch, but took longer to get ready. If you take a look at the main image it is pretty obvious that this is a gorgeous smart watch, arguably the best looking ever made. That will worry Motorola as the company is launching the Moto 360 on September 4th and until now was the only round face game in town.
LG entering the fray with a product that could be even more aesthetically pleasing will at least give us consumers more choice when looking for a wearable that is elegant and functional. Speaking of being functional, we do not expect the G Watch R to have drastically different features to the original G Watch. They were created at the same time and both run Android Wear, except the R gets the specific round faced version of Google's software.
The smart watch market is really hotting up at the moment with all the heavyweights entering the fray.
