Sounders' DeAndre Yedlin's transfer expected within next 48 hours

SEATTLE -- DeAndre Yedlin's move to a European club should be done in the next 48 hours, Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said on Sunday. In his postgame press conference after the Sounders' 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo, Schmid briefly addressed the rumors surrounding Yedlin's impending transfer.
'His situation is very close. Some things are not entirely completed yet, so you didn't want to play him and have the risk of injury happen without everything being finalized,' Schmid said. 'Hopefully, that'll be finalized and completed in the next day or two.'
Yedlin was in attendance at CenturyLink Field, as he flew back from Europe on Saturday, but he was not made available for comment. The BBC and Goal.com reported he was in London to undergo a physical examination with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a $3.5-million transfer.
Schmid said Yedlin worked out by himself before the match on Sunday with the Sounders' training staff, but he hasn't completed a training session with the first team in over a week. Before leaving for Europe, Yedlin played in the MLS All-Star Game on Aug. 6, and has limited his time with Seattle since a 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Aug. 2.
Depending on Schmid's lineup selection and how quickly Yedlin's transfer goes through, he could be available for Seattle's semifinal in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday -- if the rumors that his transfer includes a loan back to the Sounders are true.
