US weekly jobless claims rise, trend still points higher

Economists in a consensus survey expected initial claims to rise by 6,000 to 295,000. Separately, July export prices were expected to fall by 0.2 percent against the prior month's 0.5 percent decline, with import prices seen falling by 0.4 percent from a 0.1 percent gain.
