New York Comic Con cosplay gallery: On the scene at the pop culture expo

George Clooney kicked off New York Comic Con with a surprise appearance at the pop culture expo to promote his upcoming adventure, 'Tomorrowland,' directed and co-written by Brad Bird.

But the actor was hardly the only special guest attending the four day pop-culture expo, taking place at Manhattan's Javits Center from Thursday through Sunday.

Over the course of the next few days, stars from a number of fan-favorite series - including AMC's 'The Walking Dead,' Fox's 'Gotham' and Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' - along with such genre icons as Patrick Stewart and Adam West, are expected to participate in panel discussions, Q&As and signings.

In all, New York Comic Con is expected to draw some 130,000 fans to the convention that come to rival the West Coast's Comic-Con International in San Diego in size and scale.

Fans on the floor of the Javits Center on Thursday were certainly upholding both events' cosplay traditions, with attendees dressing as characters including Superman, Loki and Mystique.
