Four in the morning: Sixers pose no threat as Mavericks enjoy soft spot in the ...

Here's our four game-night observations about the Mavericks' historic 123-70 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at American Airlines Center on Thursday night.

Be careful what you wish for: The Sixers want to be bad. They know they are building for the future and have no chance of any real success this season. But this could leave a lasting mark on their young players. They're already 0-8. They lost 26 in a row at one point last season. This is not the way to build positive vibes during a major reconstruction. What the Sixers have to do is figure out a style that fits their young players, particularly Michael Carter-Williams and Nerlens Noel. Right now, they appear to be on the verge of throwing up their hands and accepting that this season can't produce anything positive.

History in the making: The Mavericks' 53-point win was their biggest in franchise history. The 44-point margin at halftime was their largest ever at the half. These are games that only happen once every decade or so, when one team lacks the talent to compete and on top of that loses interest quickly. The Mavericks probably shouldn't get used to this sort of thing. As Rick Carlisle said, this is a soft stretch of the schedule. They need to dominate this stretch.

Brandan Wright keeps firing: The big man hit 4-of-7 shots and his shooting percentage went down. That's what happens when you lead the league in shooting at 77.5 percent coming into the game. Admittedly, most of Wright's shots are dunks or point-blank hooks. But you still have to make them. He wants to lead the league in percentage and he's off to a great start toward doing so. The only question is if he'll continue to get enough shots to qualify for the honor.

Finish it off: The Mavericks are 2-1 on this home stand and finish it Saturday against Minnesota. If they can win for the third time in a row after the Miami loss to start the home stand, they will be 5-1 overall at the crib. That's a good start for the season and they will hit the road for two winnable games at Charlotte and Washington.
