'Westworld' gets HBO series order

HBO's robots-gone-wild project Westworld is a go.

The sci-fi series pilot starring Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden and Evan Rachel Wood has received an official series order. Westworld is described as 'a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin' and tells the story of a futuristic amusement park called Westworld where customers can experience forbidden fantasies.

The project is based on Michael Crichton's 1973 film and has some heavy hitters behind the scenes too: It's co-written and directed by Jonathan Nolan ( Interstellar) along with writer Lisa Joy, and has J. J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk as executive producers.

HBO teased the pickup with the above image (Sweetwater was the name of a town in Once Upon a Time in the West and is presumably the name of the Old West quadrant in the show), and then posted this vine announcing the show will debut in 2015:
