How little Beth became a 'Walking Dead' heroine

Three seasons ago, Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) was just a little girl living on a farm. As the youngest daughter of Hershel, she was kept at a distance from the chaos that engulfed the other survivors on 'The Walking Dead.'

Fast forward to Season 5. The question on everyone's minds has been: Where's Beth? In last night's episode, we finally found out. She is being held prisoner in an Atlanta hospital. As she dodges walkers and potential rapists, fans realized how invested they have become in Beth's fate.

How did Beth sneak onto our radar? Here's a look back at the horrors Beth has experienced thus far on 'The Walking Dead.'

Beth watched her mother turn, then get killed

In Season 2's 'Bloodletting,' Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group find out that Hershel (Scott Wilson) has kept all of his friends and family members who have turned into zombies locked up in the barn. When Shane (Jon Bernthal) lets them out, Beth watches her mother get gunned down; when she attempts to hold her one last time, her undead mother attacks her, forcing Andrea (Laurie Holden) to drive a scythe into her head.

Beth attempts suicide

'It's just so pointless,' Beth says to Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) in '18 Miles Out,' before stealing the knife from her lunch and hiding it with the plan to commit suicide. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Lori try to talk her out of it, while Andrea supports her decision. She eventually uses a piece of a broken mirror to slit her wrists, but eventually decides to live.

Beth's boyfriend, Jimmy, dies

Beth's boyfriend Jimmy (James Allen McCune) attempts to rescue Rick and Carl (Chandler Riggs) from the burning barn in the Season 2 finale, 'Beside the Dying Fire,' only to get overrun by walkers.

Beth watches Patricia get eaten by walkers

As the women flee the farmhouse in the Season 2 finale, Beth grabs hold of Patricia (Jane McNeill), a family friend and mother figure. They are on their way to T-Dog's (IronE Singleton) truck when walkers pull Patricia from Beth's grasp and kill her.

Beth cares for Hershel after he loses his leg

Having already lost her mother, Beth must now face the possibility of becoming an orphan after a walker bites Hershel's leg and Rick amputates it to prevent Hershel from turning in Season 3's 'Sick.' Despite his touch-and-go recovery, Hershel eventually heals.

Beth's second boyfriend, Zach, dies

A transplant from the overrun Woodbury, Zach (Kyle Gallner), forms an emotional bond with Beth in the Season 4 premiere, '30 Days Without an Accident.' As he leaves to go on a supply run with other members of the group, Beth refuses to say goodbye. Daryl (Norman Reedus) returns and tells her that Zach was bitten and died. Beth says she doesn't cry anymore.

Beth witnesses her father's beheading

After the Governor kidnaps Hershel and Michonne (Danai Gurira), Beth and Maggie watch in horror as the Governor beheads Hershel with a sword in Season 4's 'Too Far Gone.' As the prison falls, Beth escapes with Daryl and the two forge the beginnings of a potentially romantic relationship.

Beth gets kidnapped and taken to Grady Memorial hospital

Beth and Daryl find refuge inside a funeral parlor in 'Alone,' but when it gets overrun with walkers Daryl tells Beth to flee to the road. As he races to join her, he finds her bag on the ground with its contents scattered, as a black car with a white cross speeds off with Beth. She isn't seen again for the rest of the fourth season.

Beth is attacked by a would-be rapist

When Beth reappears in Season 5's fifth episode 'Slabtown,' Officer Gorman at Grady Memorial harasses Beth in a chilling scene involving a lollipop. When he later attempts to cause physical harm to Beth, she is able to escape when the cop gets bitten by a walker. Her escape is thwarted by other officers, and Beth decides to stay put when she sees Carol (Melissa McBride) being wheeled in to the hospital.
