Karlos Dansby suffers knee injury

By Jeremy Fowler | ESPN.com

CLEVELAND - The Browns lost a critical part of their defense when linebacker Karlos Dansby left Sunday's game against the Houston Texans with a knee injury. He will not return.

Dansby limped off the FirstEnergy Field with 7:37 left in the second quarter on a running play by Houston tailback Jonathan Grimes. Dansby pounded the ground after falling down but quickly got up and left the field on his own.

The 11-year veteran, signed as a free agent in the offseason, has 69 tackles, three sacks and an interception in 2014. Craig Robertson and Christian Kirksey are the Browns' top inside linebackers behind Dansby.

Dansby is considered a leader on the defense and has aided the Browns' recent resurgence. The Browns, who entered the weekend in sole possession of the AFC North lead, have allowed an average of 11 points per game.
