The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has filed a felony case against Slava Voynov after the LA Kings defenseman was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in October. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 1.
According to the release, Voynov, 24, has been charged with one felony count of corporal injury to spouse with a great bodily injury. He was arrested last month at a Torrance, CA hospital after bringing his wife there to seek treatment for the damage he allegedly inflicted. Prosecutors said she sustained injuries to her eyebrow, cheek and neck.
In the wake of the mishandling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case in the NFL, the NHL suspended Voynov indefinitely for the duration of the investigation. He has not played since Oct. 19.
'We are aware of actions taken today in California, which we will review and evaluate before making any decisions,' NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement. ' Until further notice, the current terms of Mr. Voynov's suspension remain in place.'
