Rangers Win, Then Lose, in a Shootout
The Penguins' Brandon Sutter scored in the fourth round of a shootout, after the Rangers thought they had won it, and Pittsburgh escaped with a 3-2 home victory.
Dan Boyle appeared to have won the game for the Rangers in the third round, but his goal was disallowed after a video review showed he had hit the puck a second time on a rebound.
After both teams returned to the ice from the dressing rooms, Sutter beat Henrik Lundqvist with a wrist shot. Derek Stepan had the lone shootout goal for the Rangers.
AVALANCHE 3, DEVILS 2 Matt Duchene's tiebreaking goal in the third period powered visiting Colorado over the Devils.
Eric Gelinas and Martin Havlat scored for the Devils, whose two game-winning streak ended. They fell to 8-8-2.
LIGHTNING 5, ISLANDERS 2 Cedric Paquette scored a tiebreaking goal late in the first period, and host Tampa Bay ended the Islanders' five-game winning streak.
The Islanders got goals from Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey. The Islanders, looking to tie their longest winning streak since February 2008, had allowed just six goals during their five-game run.
SABRES 6, MAPLE LEAFS 2 Zemgus Girgensons scored two goals, and Buffalo ended a five-game losing streak with a win at home over Toronto.
Tyler Ennis scored a goal and added two assists for the Sabres, who also got goals from Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers and Matt Moulson.
KINGS 3, DUCKS 2 Jarret Stoll scored his first goal of the season on a power play, and Los Angeles rallied at home over Anaheim in the Freeway Face-off.
Emerson Etem and Ryan Kesler scored for the Ducks, who had beaten Los Angeles, 6-5, on Wednesday.
BRUINS 2, HURRICANES 1 Seth Griffith and Patrice Bergeron scored first-period goals, Tuukka Rask stopped 33 shots, and Boston rebounded from consecutive embarrassing losses with a win over visiting Carolina.
The Bruins had lost their last two games by a combined 11-2 at Toronto and Montreal.
CANADIENS 6, FLYERS 3 Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and Dale Weise each scored twice, and Sergei Gonchar had two assists to reach 800 career points as host Montreal beat Philadelphia for its fifth straight victory.
David Desharnais and P. K. Subban also scored for Montreal, the Atlantic Division leader.
WILD 2, STARS 1 Mikael Granlund scored 40 seconds into the third period, and Minnesota held on to beat host Dallas.
Minnesota's Darcy Kuemper allowed only a second-period goal by Antoine Roussel and made 27 saves.
BLUE JACKETS 2, SHARKS 1 David Savard and Cam Atkinson scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky had 36 saves in his return from the injured list to lead Columbus over visiting San Jose.
Joe Pavelski had the goal for the Sharks, while Antti Niemi stopped 26 shots.
PREDATORS 2, JETS 1 Craig Smith scored at 17 minutes 58 seconds of the third period to lead Nashville over visiting Winnipeg.
