Report: Red Sox make contract offers to Jon Lester, Pablo Sandoval

MLB

The Boston Red Sox made a contract offer to free-agent pitcher Jon Lester during his meeting with the team's ownership earlier this week, reports ESPN.com's Gordon Edes.

No financial terms were disclosed in the report.

Lester, 30, turned down a four-year, $70 million offer made by Boston in March and was subsequently shipped to the Oakland Athletics on July 31 for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. He could command as much as $150 million this offseason. Lester made $13 million last season.

The pitcher is expected to take his time making his decision, according to ESPN's report.

Lester has reportedly met with the Chicago Cubs and is scheduled to meet with the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

The Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals also have interest in the three-time All-Star, with the New York Yankees also potentially interested in Lester's services.

Lester went 16-11 with a 2.46 ERA with 220 strikeouts last season for Boston and Oakland. In eight MLB seasons, Lester has compiled a 116-67 record with a 3.58 ERA with 1,457 strikeouts.

During his time in Boston, he helped the team win two World Series titles in 2007 and 2013.
