Sanchez, Eagles crushed by Packers in Lambeau

GREEN BAY - Now that Mark Sanchez has returned to the national season with the Eagles, he can be asked about all the fun he had with the Jets.

Memorable times like butt fumble.

The poor guy can't get away from it and so it came up during a pre-game interview.

'I ran into a guy's butt on national TV. At the time it was horrible,' Sanchez sheepishly explained. 'Not just embarrassing horrible, but we were already getting beat ... they scooped and scored.

'It sucked.'

So did Sunday... on his butt.

Sanchez, who had never played at Lambeau Field before, said during the week that it was on his 'bucket list.' After taking his Lambeau lumps, he can cross it off and hope he doesn't have to do it again.

Two picks, one that was returned for a pick six by Julius Peppers. A high snap that went through his hands and, when he was unable to scoop it up, was returned 49 yards for a touchdown by Casey Hayward. Not that it mattered. On a day when the Packers throttled the Eagles, 53-13, the quarterback was the least of their worries.

There wasn't much Sanchez could do in his second start with the Eagles when he was trying for an encore after his 332-yard, three-TD night against the Panthers. Not with Aaron Rodgers directing the other orchestra and not with his offensive line thinking he was Michael Vick or something.

After allowing just 11 sacks all season, they got their QB sacked three times in the first 17:00. And by the time Sanchez got his hands on the football for the fourth time, he was already down 24-3. Good luck playing catchup against Rodgers at chilly Lambeau Field.

Rodgers, making Eagles cornerback Bradley Fletcher his personal patsy, led the Packers to scores on his first four possessions. Throw in a 75-yard punt return by Micah Hyde against the Eagles' usually reliable special teams and it was 30-6 by halftime. It was the sixth consecutive home game in which the Packers scored at least 30 points, a franchise record. It was the also the first time in their esteemed history they had rung up over 50 in two consecutive games.

Rogers, who threw six first-half TD passes against the Bears here last week, finished with 341 yards and three TDs. And as Rodgers was setting the NFL record for consecutive passes without an interception at home on the same day that five of Eli Manning's throws went to the wrong team, you are reminded that this is what Ben McAdoo's Giants offense is supposed to look like. You are also reminded that if the Packers can somehow earn home field advantage in the playoffs, they are going to be hard to keep out of the Super Bowl.

The Eagles aren't a poor team. They brought a 7-2 record to Green Bay, the first winning team to visit this season. Yet they suffered the same fate as the others. Only the Jets, in Week 2, gave the Packers a game. At 7-3, the Packers are now tied with the Lions for the NFC North lead. Only the 9-1 Cardinals are better in the conference.

Sanchez's indignities both came in the second half when the game was already decided. Looking to get the ball to his tight end, Brent Celek, at the numbers, he didn't see Julius Peppers drop into coverage. The cagey old pro turned one of Sanchez' familiar mistakes into a 52-yard pick six. That only made the score 39-6.

In fact, it was probably over on the Eagles' first possession.

Sanchez (26 of 44, 346 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) had the Eagles moving after the Philly defense managed to keep the Packers out of the end zone on theirs. Then Letroy Guion rumbled up the middle unblocked and decked him. The officials may have missed a helmet-to-helmet hit and when Sanchez came off the field, he was holding his shoulder and craning his neck. It was a sign of things to come.

The best thing the Eagles could do was get out of town and regroup against the Titans at the Linc next week. This one they were never going to win no matter who was playing quarterback. Unless it was Aaron Rodgers.
