British detective John Luther is getting an American makeover.
'Luther,' the BBC series starring Idris Elba as the title character, will be remade into a drama for Fox, according to Deadline.
The site reported Tuesday that the network has given the series a pilot commitment, and that the remake will be written and executive produced by Neil Cross, who created the original series. While Elba isn't starring in the American remake, he will serve as an executive producer.
Elba was nominated for several Emmys and won a Golden Globe in 2012 for his starring role in the critically acclaimed drama about Luther, a 'near-genius murder detective whose brilliant mind can't always save him from the dangerous violence of his passions.' 'Luther' ran on BBC for three seasons and concluded its run in 2013.
News of Fox's adaptation of the British detective series comes more than a month after the premiere of 'Gracepoint' on the network, which is an American adaptation of the popular British mystery series 'Broadchurch.'
