Pebble app store to open soon, ready for the Pebble iOS and Android app
Throw your smartwatch wearing hands up in the air, Pebble has announced it will open its app store. This will integrate into the Pebble smartphone app for iOS and Android for searching, browsing and installing all the new Pebble apps onto your smartwatch.
From today, developers will be able to submit their SDK 2.0 Pebble apps to the store. The SDK 2.0 was released recently with four new APIs including JavaScript, Accelerometer, Data Logging and Persistent Storage. As a result apps already on offer are PebbleCards, PebbleCam, Smartwatch+ and Glance.
Any developers who have created an app using the SDK 1.0 will need to convert the apps to SDK 2.0 for it to be available in the app store. The Pebble smartphone app itself will automatically help Pebble users upgrade their apps.
To encourage more app developers to transition to SDK 2.0, a limited edition Pebble smartwatch will be sent to them one month from the store's launch today.
Pebble is also giving away a free watch every day from today until the app store launches. If you've got a great Pebble app idea just tweet it to @pebbledev with #onepebbleforeverydev.
