Report: Rex told players 'word on the street is' he's getting fired, asked them to ...
Is the writing on the wall for Rex Ryan? Well, the Jets coach seems to think so.
Per Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, Ryan told his players in last night's team meeting that 'word on street is' that he's getting fired. And according to Glazer, Ryan asked his players to 'fight' with him these next two weeks.
Ryan began the season on the proverbial hotseat with the arrival of new general manager John Idzik. But the Jets' 5-4 start quelled all speculation about Ryan being a lameduck coach. But after their post-bye-week swoon, the Jets are 6-8 heading into Sunday's final home game against the Cleveland Browns.
Ryan began his career with the Jets with back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances. Since then, however, they've missed the playoffs the past three years.
But by informing his players that he may be fired, Ryan could be trying to ensure some wins -- and buy himself some time in the process.
