The 'Friends' star will play the messy Oscar Madison.

The Odd Couple may get another life, this time with Friends veteran Matthew Perry playing Oscar Madison.

CBS Tuesday ordered a pilot of the classic comedy, which is based on Neil Simon's story of mismatched roommates. The tale of messy Oscar and finicky Felix has enjoyed success over the years on Broadway, in film (with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon) and on television (with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall).

Perry, recently seen in the comedies Go On and Mr. Sunshine, is also an executive producer of the CBS Television Studios project, which will be filmed before a studio audience. He and Frasier's Joe Keenan are writing.

No other casting has been announced.

The Odd Couple is the latest example of TV's attempt to revive memorable TV and movie titles. Recent projects included Bonnie & Clyde and Ironside, while Fargo and From Dusk Till Dawn are on the way.
