'Lego Movie' blocks newcomers at the box office
The adult-friendly family animation film 'The Lego Movie' kept opening movies at bay over the weekend.
In its second week, 'The Lego Movie' brought in $48 million trumping its closest rival 'About Last Night,' a comedy starring Kevin Hart, which earned approximately $27 million, more than doubling the take of the re-make of the science fiction action film 'Robocop' ($21.5 million). The George Clooney-directed 'The Monuments Men' came in at a weak 4th place at $15 million. The poorly reviewed 'Endless Love,' a remake of the 1981 Brooke Shields romance, opened at $13.4 million. And the first-week opening of 'A Winter's Tale' ($7.8 million) couldn't even best the several weeks old 'Ride Along' ($8.8 million), which took 6th place. The rest of the Top 10 consists of 'Frozen' ($5.9 million), 'Lone Survivor' ($4.1 million) and 'That Awkward Moment' ($3.3 million).
