Doug Marrone said a recent skin cancer scare won't stop him from coaching this year. Late Tuesday night, though, Marrone released a statement, via WKBW, that a cancerous mole actually had been removed from his skin but that it wouldn't affect his job status this season.
'The recent extraction procedure will have no effect on my ability to coach the team moving forward,' Marrone said in a statement.
Marrone's mole was discovered during a recent doctor's visit, he said, and it has since been removed.
Which must have prompted this to appear prematurely on the team's site.
Marrone also said in his statement that he would have to return to the doctor every three months to have his skin checked. Other than that, he said, 'that basically is the end of the story.'
Marrone's scare comes months after Broncos coach John Fox's heart scare on a golf course in Charlotte and former Texans coach Gary Kubiak's frightening collapse at halftime of a game last November after suffering from a transient ischemic attack.
