Bryce Harper remains in opening day game after scary on

NEW YORK - Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper stayed Monday's opening day game against the Mets in the top of the second inning after an on-field collision with Mets second baseman Eric Young.

Harper, sliding into second to break up a potential double-play ball off the bat of Ian Desmond, appeared to hit his head on Young's knee. He laid on the infield for a few seconds and received attention from team trainers before walking off the field under his own power.

One of the game's most exciting players, Harper has received criticism in the past for his aggressive style of play and his apparent lack of any instinct for self-preservation. Harper spent time on the disabled list in 2013 after running face-first into the outfield wall in pursuit of a fly-ball.
