Gallup: Uninsured Rate Falls to Lowest Level Since Before Obama Took Office
A new survey released by Gallup Monday morning found the uninsured rate among adults dropped to the lowest level since before President Barack Obama took office, a sign, the polling organization wrote, that the Affordable Care Act 'appears to be accomplishing its goal of increasing the percentage of Americans with health insurance coverage.'
The uninsured rate fell 2.4 percentage points since the third quarter of last year, with much of that decline coming in just the first quarter of 2014. Gallup also found that the decline occurred most among African Americans (3.3%) and lower-income Americans (3.2%).

It wasn't all roses for the Affordable Care Act: Obamacare projected about 38% of enrollees needed to be young and healthy to maintain a proper mix in the risk pools, but Gallup found the uninsured rate declined steadily among all age groups, with no disproportionate surge in youngsters. 'Gallup's findings correspond with the government's last report, showing only 25% of new enrollees as of Feb. 28 were in the 18-to-34 age range,' the group wrote.
The Obama administration said it saw a late surge of youngsters enrolling, similar to one that occurred at the end of Massachusetts' enrollment period, that will bolster those numbers.
