Pirates extend contracts of Clint Hurdle, Neal Huntington

Each man has also received an option for the 2018 season.
'Neal and Clint have led a team of baseball professionals, in the front office and on the field, that has transformed the Pittsburgh Pirates into a club that again must be reckoned with in the National League,' said club president Frank Coonelly in a statement. 'We are extremely pleased that they will continue to lead this team in Pittsburgh.'
Huntington was the architect of the Pirates team that had its first winning season since 1992 in 2013. That club, led by Hurdle, went 94-68 -- a 15-game improvement from the previous season -- winning the top wild card spot and advancing to Game 5 of the NLDS.
Hurdle, 56, is now in his fourth season as Pirates manager. He improved seven games between his first and second season before tacking on 15 more last year. The Pirates enter Saturday with a 3-1 record this season. Hurdle is 782-867 in his career with two playoff appearances, one pennant (the 2007 Rockies) and one Manager of the Year award (2013).
Huntington, 45, has been Pirates general manager since the end of the 2007 season. He took over a 68-win team that hadn't finished better than fourth since 1999.
