Giants Use Six Pitchers in Two
Tim Lincecum and five relievers combined on a two-hitter as host San Francisco beat the Cubs, 5-0.
Lincecum was pulled after pitching five innings and not allowing a hit. He threw 96 pitches and struck out five, walked four and hit a batter in another wild but effective start.
George Kontos (1-0) retired four straight before John Baker singled to right with one out in the seventh against the left-hander Jeremy Affeldt for Chicago's first hit.
Hector Sanchez hit a two-run double to help the Giants extend the best record in the majors. San Francisco has won six of seven.
ASTROS 9, ROYALS 3 Chris Carter hit two home runs, and George Springer set a rookie club record for homers in a month to help Houston to its fifth straight win.
The Astros, with the worst record in the American League, won three times in Kansas City for their first sweep of the season.
Springer homered off Danny Duffy (2-5) in the first for his ninth home run in May. Glenn Davis had held the Astros' rookie record with eight home runs in September 1985.
TEIXEIRA SITS AGAIN Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was out of the lineup for the third straight day because of soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist. Manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that it might make sense to rest Teixeira for the entire series in St. Louis, with a day off on Thursday providing additional time for the soreness to subside.
