I previously listed several reasons the Galaxy S5 is a good business smartphone and today's LG G3 announcement doesn't change my opinion. The LG G3 does have some very nice features that appeal to the road warrior, but Samsung still packs a bit more punch for the enterprise.
Just like the HTC One (M8), there were so many leaks for the LG G3 that nothing was left for us to see at the launch. While it is a slab, as I wrote in this morning's post even slabs have innovation and interesting design features. The LG G3 has a 5.5 inch display with an incredible 2,560 x 1,440 (538 ppi) pixel resolution, rear buttons, and extremely small bezels all around the display.
Other key specifications of this device include:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz Quad-Core processor 16/32GB eMMC ROM, 2/3GB DDR3 RAM / microSD slot (128GB max) Rear 13.0MP with OIS+ and Laser Auto Focus / Front 2.1MP 3,000mAh (removable) Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Smart Ready (Apt-X), NFC Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet, Burgundy Red color options Dimensions of 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9mm and 149g
I cannot wait to see the display and the cool looking metallic back covers. Metal on a phone feels premium, but also adds weight so it looks like they went with a nice compromise here. The G2 camera was excellent too so seeing an improvement here is something I look forward to testing out.
The removable battery and microSD card slot are helpful for extending the useful life of the LG G3 and I am sure buyers will appreciate these options. It will be interesting to see if the super high resolution display and new battery optimization can let you use the device for at least a full day.
There is no reported waterproof integrity so the Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 continue to be the best options if that is a need for you.
LG also has quite a few improvements in software, including Smart Notice, Smart Keyboard, Smart Security, and advanced camera options. Smart Notice looks very attractive and I must try it out on the G3.
I just bought my wife a Samsung Galaxy S5 last night at T-Mobile, but am questioning that purchase now with the LG G3 announcement. T-Mobile stated the device is expected in the late summer so I guess I will stick with a solid device that is available now. T-Mobile is offering to give away a LG G3 every day until 29 June for those who pre-register online so there is one way to get it early.
