Asus goes all
The company shows off its new 8-inch Fonepad, the new Transformer Book V powered by both Android and Windows and the super-slim Transformer Book T300 Chi all powered by Intel processors.
Aloysius Low/CNETTAIPEI, Taiwan -- If you want a sign of Intel's ambitions in the mobile space, look no further than the Computex announcements from Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Asus.
Chairman Jonney Shih took to the stage to announce a bevy of new mobile products, and surprise, surprise, all of these new tablets and phones all come powered by Intel, with nary a trace of ARM processors.
The Asus Fonepad is a new 8-inch version phablet, designed to be larger than your face when used. It sports a 1.8GHz Intem Atom processor, has dual-SIM capabilities, 3G connectivity and an 8-inch 1,280x800-pixel display.
The super-slim 12.5-inch Transformer Book T300 Chi is impressive, both in form factor and specs. It sports a super high-resolution of 2,560x1,440-pixel display, is 7.3mm thin and comes with 4G connectivity. It runs Windows 8.
Aloysius Low/CNETEqually impressive is the Transformer Book V, which Asus says is name for its ability to feature five different modes. You can use it as an Android phone, tablet or laptop, or switch it to a Windows tablet or use it as a notebook.
The 12.5-inch Book V will have up to 64GB of onboard storage, and has 2GB of RAM. The phone part comes with a 5-inch display and will have LTE onboard. Both parts are powered by Intel, of course.
