Pride Parade a celebration of state's new marriage law
It was a large crowd but only few problems, said police this evening after the city's Pride Parade in Lake View.
More than one million people attended the event, according to a brief statement from police News Affairs issued about 5:20 p.m.
Despite the large crowd, there were only a 'handful of issues' including eight arrests, one of which was for criminal damage to a police vehicle, the statement said.
There was no further information available about the police vehicle being damaged, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
Police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said he had not heard of anyone getting injured.
A Chicago Fire Department official said as of 2:10 p.m. they have had responses for parade goers needing medical assistance because they are outside 'drinking in the heat'' and 'they're fainting or throwing up.''
'It's pretty standard for this parade,'' according to the official, who added there have no responses for fights.
