Ed Sheeran's X becomes 2014's fastest selling album
Ed Sheeran ... Outselling everyone.
Both the UK albums and singles charts have got new No 1s, with Ella Henderson and Lana Del Rey displaced at the top - and in both charts, youth has taken the upper hand.
The 19-year-old Dutch house producer Oliver Heldens and 20-year-old Worcestershire singer-songwriter Becky Hill top the singles chart - which this week include streams for the first time - with Gecko (Overdrive), while 23-year-old Ed Sheeran has gone straight in at No 1 in the album chart with his second album, X. Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence drops two places to No 3, with Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour climbing from No 3 to No 2.
Sheeran's album (pronounced as 'multiply', not as the letter) has become the fastest selling album of the year so far, with 182,000 sales in its first week, 14,000 more than Coldplay managed with Ghost Stories in May. It features his first No 1 single, Sing.
The second highest new entry on the album chart comes from the Atlanta metal quartet Mastodon, whose Once More 'Round the Sun enters at No 10. Lower down the chart, the influence of TV exposure can be felt. Stevie Wonder benefits from being the sound of the BBC's World Cup coverage with Songs in the Key of Life entering the top 40 at No 14, while a string of acts who appeared at Glastonbury have had albums climb back up the charts. Elbow's The Take Off and Landing of Everything rises from No 58 to No 19; Rudimental's Home soars 59 places to No 24, while the new No 25 - Arcade Fire's Reflektor - has jumped a staggering 85 places. Lily Allen's Yeezus rises from No 49 to No 37, and Haim's Days Are Gone leaps from No 92 to No 52.
