Google is reportedly preparing to release the new 'Google Fit' health data tracking service to compete with Apple's recently announced HealthKit data collection services.

Google is said to be planning to release 'Google Fit' at the upcoming Google I/O developers conference. The Google Fit strategy calls for Internet search giant to 'aggregate data through open APIs, instruction sets that allow apps to share information, and will also announce partnerships with wearable device makers at its I/O conference.' An article in Forbes recently said that the new service will collect and aggregate data from popular fitness trackers and health-related apps, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the company's plans. The service will be launched at the June 25-26 Google I/O conference in San Francisco. Google Fit would allow its users a wearable device that measures data like steps or heart rate to interface with cloud-based services of the company and become part of the Google Fit ecosystem. It is interesting to note that the Google I/O conference schedule still has no mention of the Fit service but this is a normal practice as these companies prefer not to reveal anything about major announcements in advance. They use the conference to make bog announcements. In 2012, Google had used its I/O to launch Google Glass. Experts maintain Google is trying hard to find a strong place in the health marketplace, which is set to witness huge growth in the future. Google had first launched its Google Health initiative in 208. The service was aimed to help patients access their personal health records while on the go. The service, however, failed to grab the attention of the users, forcing Google to shut it down in January 2013.
