Jeff Bower to be Pistons GM under Stan Van Gundy
Detroit Pistons President and coach Stan Van Gundy appears to have settled on former New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower to run his front office.
The Pistons are working on an agreement with Bower, who would leave his head coaching position at Marist College if a deal is reached, two people with knowledge of the situation confirmed Monday. The people requested anonymity because of the deal isn't finalized.
Bower, 53, would oversee the front office while Van Gundy would concentrate on coaching duties. But Van Gundy will have final say over personnel decisions.
Bower was GM for the Hornets (now the Pelicans) for seven seasons.
Van Gundy also considered former NBA executive Stu Jackson, who interviewed with the Pistons last week.
Yahoo Sports was the first to report the news.
Vince Ellis writes for the Detroit Free Press and is a member of USA TODAY Sports' NBA power rankings panel.
